After a hot day, the Senior School impressed an audience of parents and staff with different musical ensembles.
Last night, the theatre was occupied by talented Senior School pupils performing songs and ensembles of their own choosing. The night began with ‘Fly, Fly, Away’ by Sophie and, in the theatre decorated with pride flags, the entire concert was incredibly atmospheric. Each pupil performed with great fervour, despite many being nervous beforehand.
The concert continued to include an original song by Barney, the first of his two chosen songs. Josh followed with ‘Spanish Nocturne’, Charlie with ‘World Burn’, and Amelia with ‘Cockatoo’.
Olivia and Jaisie followed with a duet of ‘My House’, a song from Matilda. Summer also confidently performed a rendition of Radiohead’s ‘Creep’, adding a great element of Rock and Roll to the evening. After this, Jazz Band 2 played ‘Odofo Nyi Ekyiri Biara’ together before Felix performed both Scary Stuff and Anastasia on piano.
As the night went on, there were further inspiring performances. Sorcha performed ‘Tango ‘Til You Drop!’, Stan, Iago and Leo fired up a breath-taking cover of ‘Eye of the Tiger’, and Charlie and Ash followed with the reprise of ‘First Time in Forever’ from Disney’s Frozen. The mix of genres throughout the night made sure that there was music to suit everyone’s tastes. Ben, after another performance (Oasis’ ‘Live Forever’ by Barney), performed the tongue-twisting song ‘The Elements’ very impressively despite his initial warning that he may trip up!
For the last part of the evening, Tristan performed extremely well while playing the challenging piece ‘Schubert Impromptu’, Jasmine and Jen performed the ‘Perfect Duet’ – pun intented, Ash sang ‘So Big, So Small’, Stan sang Adele’s ‘Hometown Glory’ and Ella Boon ‘What Baking Can Do’, before Jazz Band 1 closed out the evening with ‘You’ve Got To’.
Overall, the musicians hosted a wonderful evening with diverse music and plentiful celebration as we bring this academic year to a close. It was great to also celebrate some pupils who will be leaving St Chris for university soon as well as recognising the great contributions they have made to our community. Well done to all who took part, it was certainly a night to remember!
