Yesterday afternoon, the Junior School gathering took place on the Junior School lawn. Parents enjoyed a picnic and music performed by Junior School pupils.
The gathering had an amazing turnout, with parents and staff finding a spot on the lawn to place their picnic blanket and snacks. Even dogs were welcome to enjoy the concert.
From the Monte (Nursery) to D Group (Year 6), pupils relished singing a range of songs from Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’ to the Gospel Choir’s rendition of Ben E. King’s ‘Stand by Me’ – a particularly emotional performance for parents and staff watching!
The singers were encouraged by all members of staff, but particularly by the Music Department’s Ann-Marie Knight and Bryan Anderson.
Also, for the first time, the Junior School’s newly-formed rock band, ‘The Ghost Rockers’ amazed the crowd with a performance of one of Green Day’s songs. Parents clapped and engaged will the different genres of music and there were plenty of smiley faces both in the crowd and on the stage!
The Head of Junior School, Katie Wright, closed the gathering with staff, pupil and parent recognition and appreciation.
The event was certainly both a moving and inspiring occasion and pupils, many of whom had never performed before, thoroughly enjoyed grabbing the mic or plucking a few cords on the electric guitar. We certainly have some awesome St Chris bands forming, from the Gospel Choir to the rock band, as well as some wonderful soloists.
The Senior School Summer Concert took place the evening prior, which you can read about here.
