Welcome to St Chris

What every parent wants is for their children to do well in life. And that means finding a school that will set them up for their future.

What do they need for that?

Good grades, of course, and as strong an academic attainment as possible. But they need something arguably more important too.
They need a core confidence in themselves as young people, a sense of their own worth and responsibility.

So come and visit St Chris and find out what your children
are capable of.

St Chris at a Glance

St Chris is an independent day and boarding school that welcomes girls and boys from the ages of 3 to 18, located in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire.

Founded in 1915, we treat young people as individuals, encouraging them to develop into capable, imaginative, responsible people with a zest for life.

At the end of the last academic year, students performed in cabaret-style to a packed out audience of parents, guardians, carers, staff, and members of our community. There were endless musical numbers performed as solos or duets, with final pieces from the whole ensemble closing out the show.It certainly was a night to remember!#MyStChris ... See MoreSee Less

Meet Lydia Somerville 👋Lydia joined St Chris back in April 2016 after a stent of being one of our supply teachers. Throughout her time at St Chris, Lydia has been a Year 2 (H Group) teacher, a Year 5 (E Group) teacher, and now leads Forest School sessions across the Junior School.Ever since becoming the Junior School Forest School Teacher, Lydia has also been the Be Green lead in the Junior School and landed the School our Green Flag 🌿 status this year with the help of the Junior School Eco Council; an enormous accomplishment! Lydia is a grower herself, and loves tending the vegetable garden with the children; she has often brought in wildflowers, seeds, and produce from home to share with our community and increase our biodiversity. Over time, Lydia has encouraged more teachers to help their class grow a different vegetable each year. During this time, we have had some fantastic crops like potatoes and strawberries which we have planted, grown, prepared, and eaten, as well as some challenging weather!Lydia loves working at St Chris, she said "I love the community feel of St Chris. If the Be Green team think of something we could work on to change and make more planet friendly, we usually get a positive, helpful response. Different teams across the school are keen to support us in aiding the school to become a more environmentally friendly place".Lydia also says she feels an increasing "buzz" at work now that Environmental and Sustainability Studies have been introduced to the Year 7 (I Group) and Year 8 (II Group) curriculum on carousel. "I love being part of a team. Having colleagues in the Senior School working alongside me on expanding the environmental focus of the education we offer has given me a real boost. There are so many children at St Chris who really care about the current state of our planet, and who want to be part of building a better future".Thank you for all the phenomenal work you do, Lydia!#MyStChris ...
