This week, the Junior School took part in Faith Week: an annual celebration of different religions and cultures from across the world. Each class was designated a religion to explore and have been building their awareness and understanding of each culture.
It was heartwarming to hear pupils share information about the faith they are studying with other pupils in different years on the playground as they enjoyed their free time at school. Pupils also enjoyed trips to local religious centres and buildings, including visiting a mosque, a church, a Buddhist centre, and the Quaker Meeting House. Pupils asked some brilliant questions about life as a monk and the principles of Christianity. The children were all very respectful on these trips and really enjoyed learning about different religions and cultures.
Outside of these visits, pupils studying Sikhism enjoyed a visit from Amen Kaur, a pupil’s parent, who gave a presentation about Sikhism and brought parshad for pupils to try, a food Sikhs eat after they pray. The Monte (Nursery) also joined E Group (Year 5) in trying Thai food in their studies of Buddhism, and K Group (Reception) had a Rabbi visit their class on Tuesday.
