Junior School Trips and Visits
St Chris is based on the edge of Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire, ideally located close to London, Cambridge and towns Hitchin and Stevenage yet also to surrounding countryside and Country Parks.
We make a lot of use of our location with at least one day trip per class for students each term.
Education at St Chris extends beyond the classroom walls. Our Junior School students enjoy multiple opportunities to embark on enriching day trips throughout the year, included in the school fees. These excursions are carefully curated to enhance their studies and bring learning to life. Whether it's exploring historical landmarks, delving into nature, or engaging in cultural experiences, these trips create lasting memories and broaden the horizons of our young learners. Each class takes part in at least one class trip per term.
Recent day trips have included:
- Nursery: Wimpole, Willows Farm
- Reception: Wimpole, Whipsnade Zoo
- Year 1: London Transport Museum, RAF Museum
- Year 2: Woburn Safari, Celctic Harmony camp
- Year 3: The Living Rainforest, Pizza Express
- Year 4: Angelsey Abbey, Hobbledown, National Portrait Gallery
- Year 5: National Space Centre, Kew Garden
- Year 6: Bletchley Park, Sky Studios
We also make one whole school trip a year (recently to Legoland), and there are smaller trips for example during Multi-Faith Week to local places of worship, or to local areas to support topic work. In Year 6, students make a day trip to France to celebrate the end of their time in the Junior School and transition to Senior School.
Residential Trips
Students from Year 3 also undertake at least one residential trip each year (which we call LSP – or Late Summer Programme) which increase in duration and in challenge level as the children progress through the school. For many students, this is the first time they have been away from family for such a length of time, so it is a great personal development opportunity for our students. In Year 2, we have an overnight campout at St Chris to prepare children for going away the following year.
Recent LSP residential trips have included:
- Year 3 – Thriftwood Camp in Essex – camping, kayaking, climbing wall, axe throwing, ropes course – two nights
- Year 4 – Bawdsey Manor Adventure, Suffolk – multi activity trip – three nights
- Year 5 – Isle of Wight – multi-activity trip - five nights
- Year 6 – York (to support Vikings and civilizations topic) - five nights
