Sports
Sixth Form Sport
At St Chris, our sport curriculum focuses on participation and accessibility, encouraging as many students to access physical education as possible. Our commitment to fostering well-rounded individuals is inclusive of our sports culture that thrives within our community.
Many of our Sixth Form students participate in basketball, netball and football teams and are avid teammates. Other students participate in extra-curricular activities such as horse riding and wild water swimming. We support our students in all their sporting endeavours regardless of their chosen sport.
We also offer A Level Physical Education (PE) for those who wish to pursue a qualification in the subject. In this study, students have opportunities to analyse a range of sports, as well as gaining a practical performance grade from their own chosen sports.
Inter-house Competitions: A Rally of Talent
The spirit of healthy competition comes alive in our half-termly Inter-house sports events. Sixth Form students actively participate and often lead these competitions, earning valuable points for their houses and contributing to the lively camaraderie that defines St Chris. At St Chris, our community extends between year groups, so Sixth Form students are often known to support their younger peers by helping to support the running of Sports Day or cheering on their teammates. We have sixth form representatives to help run the inter house events and competitions at school.
Clubs for Every Passion
At St Chris, we have a large range of lunchtime and after-school sports clubs run by our PE specialists. These sessions provide a platform for students to immerse themselves in a variety of sports, fostering a love for physical activity and promoting a healthy lifestyle. For A-Level students, this also means they can have a healthy break from their studies to enhance their physical, social and mental wellbeing.
Leadership in Action: Coaching and Refereeing
In the realm of sports, Sixth Form students take on leadership roles, channelling their expertise to coach and referee matches for younger age groups. This invaluable experience not only hones their own skills but also instils a sense of responsibility and mentorship. Many of our students go on to complete their lifeguard qualifications at our on-site pool, qualifying as Lifeguards in Sixth Form and taking on part-time jobs at the School’s pool.
Sixth form students also have an opportunity to share their love and passion of sports with the younger students in our Junior School. They can offer to coach, lead, or assist with sports clubs in the Junior School after School programme.
District League Dominance: North Herts District League
St Chris Senior School proudly enters the North Herts District League for all sports, showcasing our prowess in a competitive arena. Engaging in friendly matches against both local state and independent schools, our students experience the thrill of spirited competition and forge lasting connections.
St Chris is not just a participant but a contender, competing at a high level across a spectrum of sports. The resounding cheers of victory echo throughout our history, with notable district championships achieved in Netball, Football, and Basketball. These triumphs stand testament to the dedication and skill of our student-athletes.
For many students, sport in the Sixth Form is integral to building character, fostering leadership, and celebrating victories both on and off the field. Join us in this journey where passion meets skill, and every student can shine.
