Earlier this month we were delighted to welcome students from schools across the region when we hosted our first ever Regional VEX Robotics Tournament: The Garden City Gambit.
Having already qualified for Nationals, our most senior robotics team, the award-winning Snowflakes, decided to sit this one out and instead worked tirelessly before, during and after the competition to ensure that everything ran smoothly.
The event was a huge success with 24 teams competing from all across the region for a place in the VEX Nationals in Coventry, the winners of which will go on to represent the UK in the World Championship this summer.
Teams came from schools including Bedminster Down School (Bristol); Stowe School (Buckingham); St Helena School (Colchester); Queen Elizabeth’s School (London); Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys (Canterbury); Highgate School (London); City of London School for Girls; Haberdashers’ Boys’ School (Hertfordshire) and Radley College (Abingdon).
Our two younger teams, the Blizzards and the Icicles, got to compete for the very first time and it is safe the say that they have caught the bug and are ready to carry on our legacy of excellence in robotics at St Chris. One of the younger teams has since had confirmation that they too have qualified for Nationals based on their world ranking!
A special thank you to all our amazing parents who stepped in to volunteer and support the event, and to Adam Eldin and the St Chris Snowflakes for making this happen.
