Parents’ Consultations, Reports and Homework
As part of keeping parents and carers informed about their child’s progress at school, we hold regular Parents’ Consultations and send academic reports, with the calendar of dates for these sent to parents at the start of the Autumn Term.
Parents’ Consultations
Parents’ Consultation dates are published at the start of each year and run as hybrid events: parents can choose whether to attend in person or online. For Year 7 (I Group) parents, the first Parents’ Consultation is with their Company Adviser to discuss how they are settling in. All other Parents’ Consultations are with subject teachers and parents can also choose to meet the Company Adviser or Head of Year. Parents book the appointments online via a link on My School Portal and you will receive an email confirming your bookings.
Academic Reports
Parents receive regular updates on progress and how their child is doing through written reports, which are sent to parents via My School Portal. Academic Reports are sent in the Autumn, Spring and Summer Terms and give a comprehensive picture of the subjects being studied, the progress being made and next steps. The Company Adviser also includes a pastoral report, highlighting co-curricular activities and involvement in the wider life of St Chris.
Homework
Students are given regular homework as this plays an important role in developing study skills and reinforcing learning. In addition, good time-management, sensible patterns of working and independent learning become well-established and the norm.
St Chris uses Microsoft Teams as the main platform for setting homework via the Assignments function. Students will be shown how to log in to Microsoft Teams as part of their Induction process and can access their homework from here. Parents can use their child’s log in to see and subscribe to their homework calendar, or they can see a list of homework broken down by subject via My School Portal.
In Year 7 (I Group) students have a phased introduction of homework; Only core subjects set homework (English, mathematics and science) at the beginning of the year and then other subjects begin setting homework after October half term. Company Advisers oversee the management of homework diaries. Homework is set for up to 60 minutes per night (with up to 30 minutes per individual subject task.)
From Year 8 (II Group) onwards, homework is set for up to 90 minutes per night (with up to 45 minutes per individual subject task.)
