Nestled within the expansive grounds of St Chris, our Junior School Forest School recently played host to a magical ‘Stay and Play’ session, welcoming prospective families into the enchanting world of outdoor learning. Led by our passionate Junior School Forest School teacher Lydia Somerville, this week’s session was not only a celebration of nature but also an opportunity for prospective families to witness firsthand the transformative experiences awaiting their children at St Chris.
K Group (Reception) took the lead in extending a warm welcome to the prospective families, showcasing the friendly and inclusive atmosphere that defines St Chris. These young nature enthusiasts proved outstanding at explaining the rules of Forest School, ensuring that our visitors felt not just welcome, but also part of the forest community.
The session witnessed a remarkable display of newfound confidence among the visiting pupils. One particularly heartwarming story unfolded as a visiting child, who had never dared to climb a tree before, discovered the thrill of reaching new heights. Their transformation into an avid climber not only reflected the nurturing environment of Forest School but also hinted at the untapped potential waiting to be explored.
The Forest School session became a canvas for creativity as one young explorer crafted a star from wicker. The commitment to this artistic endeavour was so inspiring that they expressed the intent to practice their newfound skills at home. The Forest School experience at St Chris not only encourages a connection with nature but also provides a platform for students to explore and develop their creative abilities.
The enchantment of the Forest School extended beyond climbing and crafting. Another visitor to the session found joy in collecting sticks, carefully curating a selection to take home for play. This simple yet profound connection with nature encapsulates the essence of Forest School, where each child can discover the joy in the simplest of treasures nature has to offer.
For the prospective families in attendance, the Forest School Stay and Play session provided a glimpse into the distinctive educational ethos of St Chris while allowing them the opportunity to talk to members of staff and other prospective families. It showcased not only our commitment to academic excellence but also our dedication to fostering a holistic learning environment that nurtures each child’s unique talents and interests.
This interactive session provided an opportunity for parents to engage in conversations about the benefits of Forest School, the impact on children’s development, and how it aligns with the overall educational philosophy at St Chris.
The recent Stay and Play Forest School session at St Chris was more than a journey into the woods; it was a collective exploration of curiosity, creativity, and confidence. As the young adventurers climbed trees, crafted stars, and collected sticks, they not only embraced the wonders of nature but also discovered a sense of belonging within the St Chris community.
